Research Focus

Dr. Gettys has a 60% research and 40% extension appointment in the Agronomy Department at the University of Florida’s Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center. Her responsibilities include evaluating control methods to manage aquatic weeds, developing techniques to improve lake and wetland restoration projects, and providing leadership for the UF Aquatic Weed Control Short Course.

Current research includes:
• Efficacy, selectivity and non-target effects of experimental aquatic herbicides
• Screening ecotypes of native submersed species to identify widely adapted taxa that can be useful in restoration programs
• Development of herbicide resistance in aquatic plants
• Culture, propagation and production of native aquatic and wetland plants
